Anxiety

Pre-Kyra, I routinely worked a few hours during the weekends. But now that she is around, I try to play with her all weekend long. The issue is that I am not able to complete all of my work projects during normal working hours and/or over the weekends anymore. I try to leave by 5pm or 6pm everyday, so that I can hang out with her and play and read books before her bedtime. This new routine led me to get up at freaking 1am this morning and get to work. I had planned on getting up at 4am and heading into work a little earlier than usual, but all I could think about all night long was my project that was due this morning. The more I thought about it, the more anxious I got. So, I got up uber early and cranked it out. Thank God I got in here when I did, because there is no way I would have met my deadline if I had come in later like I had planned on doing. I like what I do, but cannot believe how many hours I have put in over the past year.

Which leads me to my little sister. She is contemplating becoming a lawyer. I do not want to dash her hopes or dreams, so I told her to make sure she goes somewhere freaking cheap/affordable, so she does not feel like she needs to work 12-15 hours a day minimum to pay back her student loans fast ha-ha. Nice advice eh? However, I am pretty sure I would have worked this much even if I didn't have crazy student loan balances. Its just my personality type. That being said, I cannot help but wonder if my health issues this year are the result of all of the freaking hours I have put in..

Multi-tasking

I supposedly was allowed to listen in on corporate governance and disclosure conference on Monday and Tuesday. I technically did listen to the conference, but I also had to complete numerous client projects and take phone calls at the same time. In a world of billable hours the luxury of actually learning and attending a conference are non-existent. It seems like companies continue to lay off more people, all the while expecting those left behind to do the work of those who were just fired. Basically, I have transitioned from doing the work of two people to doing the work of four people. I just hope that this trend does not continue forever.

Back to Normal

I will lay off the gloom and doom type posts for a few days. :) All is well here. I am excited that it is Friday. No big plans for the weekend, other than sleeping in a little bit. I have an endless pile of work, but working through the weekend will not make it go away. As such, I am relaxing all weekend.

Also, I am so happy that the real refs are back in the NFL. Hopefully the Packers can turn their season around now that interceptions will not be counted as touchdowns!

It's 3am....

It's 3 am and I am again cranking away on client documents....One busy season rolled into the next, or maybe the first one never ended. I'd feel better about the economy if I was not busy drafting general severance plan documents!

I knew the government's claims of 1.70% GDP growth in the 2nd quarter were bs! Read here.

What Romney Was Trying To Say....

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years.”

Awesome!

I took the front two panels off the top of the Jeep and cruised into work under a beautiful sky full of stars this morning! Here is to hoping it won't rain today, as I left those two panels at home in the garage!

Nothing noteworthy is going on at work. I am STILL slammed with an ever growing list of projects. But instead of working everry weekend, I actually take them off. I have realized that there will always be work, even if I work hard to get caught up over the weekends. Its basically impossible to stay on top of my expanding task list!

Duh

Money-Saving Tip of the Day
Why would anyone pay techagreements.com or docstoc.com for sample employment agreements or award agreements from public companies when you can pull the same agreements for free at the SEC's Edgar website? Just google whatever document type you want to find (i.e., stock option award agreement, Chief Executive Officer employment agreement, etc.) and if it takes you to one of those above mentioned websites, simply use whatever company is named in the sample agreement and search for those same filings for free at the SEC Edgar site in the Form 10-k exhibit list.

Off-Topic
I spent the weekend at my grandparent's lakehouse. It was great to relax all weekend long with family. Of course, taking off Friday means that my email inbox is out of control today. Looks like it is going to be a hectic work week!

Asleep

I am still waiting for the coffee to kick in. I have way too much to finish before the end of the day if I want to take tomorrow off from work..I wish the caffeine would start working so I could start working ha-ha!

Ooops!

I had planned on prepping for a few hours this morning for a big board of directors meeting at one of my client companies. Of course, I came into the office this morning and immediately receive a message to dial into the call! Talk about adrenaline. My calendar did not automatically update to reflect the new, earlier start time! Anyway, took a deep breath and kicked some ass on my topic and related questions!

Early B-Day Present

Ha-ha! Opened my b-day present from my mom yesterday! Thanks for the awesome t-shirt Mom!

Also, on a more somber note, astronaut Sally Ride died yesterday. Here is a great article about her life. She was definitely a childhood hero of mine and she will be missed!

No AC!

It is so hot in my office right now. My employer does not turn on the air conditioner during the weekends, and so my office feels rather steamy right now (very hot, very humid). The worst part is that I will have to work in this climate for a few hours until they finally crank the air on at about 8:30am. I might be a tad glossy when the other co-workers get in this morning ha-ha.

Other than working in a sauna, nothing too exciting going on..I turn 32 years old this week. Not sure what I think about this age. More to come on this subject!

Happy Monday!

Article of the Day

This article reminded me of my own recent experience with the judgemental comments I received from numerous co-workers (male and female) regarding the level of maternity leave I took after Kyra was born. I basically only took a few weeks off and worked from home right away. Between fighting off the vultures who wanted to maneuver into my role and trying not to get upset with the various comments I received from "friends" in the workplace, I had a difficult time with the issue addressed in the article.

Rain Dance

As many of you might know, the Midwest is in the midst of a horrible drought. So, the thunderstorm that came rolling through last night was a welcome sight and sound. However, watching the bedroom glow during the nighttime hours from lightning is scary after watching alien movies. We have been watching the Torchwood miniseries (Children of the Earth) over the past few days. It has a horrible and scary plot (aliens from outer space demand 10% of the world's children). Anyway, I had scary dreams all night long ha-ha!

Old Habits

Ate a Lindt mint chocolate bar and drank a venti Starbucks coffee for breakfast today. I guess I will never grow out of eating junk food for breakfast ha-ha.

My Good Morning Ramble

I woke up yesterday at 2am in sheer panic. I realized that I did not have enough time to draft a few projects that were due by the close of business. So, I jumped out of bed, got ready, and drove into work at a horrible hour (again). I worked non-stop until the deadline, and then hit the send button right at 5pm. I then jumped on a phone call with a client prospect and headed home at around 6pm. It was a long day and I was beat. I looked in the mirror on the way home and noticed that my eyes were a horrible shade of red..But once I got home everything was great. My husband ordered pizza and I got to play with Kyra and relax to some mindless tv shows. Which brings me to this morning..I slept in until about 6am and left for a work at a more reasonable time. I decided to treat myself to a nice Venti Starbucks coffee this morning as well. And the best part of this decision is that when I got to the window to pay, the barista said that the woman in front of me bought my coffee because she loved the color of my orange jeep. All I can think of this morning is that it is going to be a good day. I survived a horrible stress filled workday yesterday and started today with an awesome free coffee.

Crankenstein

I crank away on project after project at work. It has been this way since last fall. Typically, the summer months are when I get to work on some non-billable projects and leave the office early (or at least by 5pm). Well, it is not a typical year. I have been at the office by 5am (3am during peak of the season) since January. I pride myself on always keeping a positive attitude and working incredibly fast and accurate. However, I think my hyper self might actually be losing some steam. I desperately need to find a way to get back to feeling energetic and normal.

Question of the Day

Why won't Obama release his education-related records (including transcripts for undergrad and grad school), like all of the recent presidents have done? We know that he attended Columbia and Occidental College for undergrad and Harvard for law school. Why can't we see what classes he took and how he performed in those classes? I am not someone who thinks that this information is necessarily pertinent to being President, but find it odd that he will not release such information.

Best Dog Ever

Lobo was feeling sick again yesterday. So, we took her into the vet and he ran some blood tests. Unfortunately, she had extensive cancer throughout her body. We had to put her down. Never anticipated how hard it would be to say good bye to such a good friend. I truly do hope that all dogs do go to heaven.

Daddy's Girl

This picture makes me laugh. Kyra in a star wars t-shirt and a jean skirt..Definitely a daddy's girl! She is just over 6.5 months old, and continues to make me laugh. Now that it is warm outside we have been taking her out for walks. She is so fascinated with flowers and trees. Super cute to see how curious she is about the world. And now that she can crawl wherever she wants, we have to be careful with her and her overwhelming curiosity. Work is going well for me. My busy season is not over yet. Unlike prior years its mid-May and I am still swamped. I am not sure what it means. Maybe the economy is improving or maybe my clients are becoming micro-managed by shareholders and/or the government!
